Electronics project – USB interface
During a trip to my local Maplin electronics shop for some cable, i got side tracked and noticed a really good project kit to build a USB interface card for a PC. It must have been over 6 years since i last did any electronics but over the last few months i have been considering doing some just to refresh my knowledge. After all it’s a skill that comes in handy and one that is dying out in the hobby arena. The only reason i didn’t leave the shop with the kit was the price, i really didn’t have £30 to spend and thought i might be able to get it cheaper from the Internet. By the time i got home i had realised that i could build this kit no problem, write a great program to get it working, but what on earth would i use it to monitor or control?!?!
Once i come up with an idea then i will buy and build this kit as i really do want to keep my hand in with electronics. It may be some time though as ideas are not my strong point.
For anyone interested the kit is a Velleman kit number VM110

Dear sir,
I toohave bought one ofthose kits andit is assembled & works. the only thing wrong now is that I seem to abot £300 worth of software to use it. I do have need of an interface kit for some projects, but I really would like to use a ‘BASIC’ language rather than an expensive propriety one. How did you get on??
Peter
There is a personal version of Microsoft Visual Studio which is designed for hobbiest and people who want to write software for their self. All free and feature full as long as you dont want to sell your programs.
